Courtney Fudge nabs ICCAC Player of the Week honor

Freshman Courtney Fudge (Pleasant Hill, IA/Des Moines East) posted a .630 batting average last week for the Marshalltown Community College Softball team and has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Softball Player of the Week.

Fudge extending her hitting streak to 10 games last week, helping the Tigers win four games. Fudge finished the eight-game stretch last week going 17-27 at the plate with 13 runs scored and 11 RBI. The freshman connected on two home runs and added three doubles during the week. Fudge also showed great discipline at the plate, walking six times for a .706 on base percentage.

Fudge upped her batting average to a team-best .402 on the year while her .503 on base percentage ranks sixth in the ICCAC. Fudge currently ranks in the top 10 in the conference in runs, triples, RBI, walks, and stolen bases.

The freshman opened up the week with three hits in a doubleheader sweep at North Iowa Area Community College. Fudge followed up with a 4-4 performance in game one against Ellsworth Community College on Thursday, scoring three runs and driving in two more. In game two against the Panthers, Fudge went 3-3 with three more runs and two more RBI as the Tigers scored 34 runs between the two wins.

Fudge kept the hitting streak alive with a hit in each game of Saturday's losses to Southeastern Community College. The Tigers fell twice to Muscatine Community College on Sunday, but Fudge managed to go 5-7 on the day with three RBI.

The Tigers head to Indian Hills Community College for a 2:00 PM conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
