Tigers fall twice at home to No. 13 Indian Hills

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Softball team fell twice to visiting No. 13 Indian Hills Community College in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play on Monday afternoon. The Tigers dropped game one 6-2 and fell in the nightcap 11-3.

MCC (13-8/0-4) fell behind by a 5-0 margin in game one and managed just five hits in the loss. Sophomore Kari Smith (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) and freshman Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) scored the only two runs for the Tigers. Sophomores Sarah Ghee (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) and Raini Hilmer (Dysart, IA/Union) both collected doubles against the Warriors (21-8/2-0).

Indian Hills continued to strive at the plate in game two as the Warriors built an 8-0 lead after three at bats. Hilmer gave the Tigers some life in the bottom of the third inning, connecting on a three-run home run to left field, the sophomore's team-leading fifth home run of the season. MCC failed to cross the plate in the remainder of the contest as the Warriors completed the afternoon sweep.

Freshman Courtney Fudge (Pleasant Hill, IA/Des Moines East) and sophomore Taylor Anderson (San Antonio, TX/Churchill) both had a pair of hits, including a double each for the Tigers.

MCC will take a break from conference play with a home doubleheader against MCC-Maple Woods Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM at the Marshalltown Softball Complex.
