Tess Cheetham named ICCAC Player of the Week

Freshman Tess Cheetham (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Player of the Week after leading the Marshalltown Community College Softball team to four wins last week.

Cheetham posted a .520 batting average in eight games last week, collecting 13 hits in 25 at bats, including four extra base knocks. The freshman drove in 11 runs while scoring five more. Cheetham currently leads the Tigers with 27 RBI on the year.

Cheetham opened up the week going 2-4 in a 9-2 loss to Southwestern Community College on Monday, driving in the team's only two runs. At Mount Mercy on Wednesday, Cheetham recorded five hits in seven at bats as the Tigers swept the Mustangs 9-1 and 11-6. Cheetham drove in four runs and scored four more with a pair of doubles in the evening sweep.

The Tigers took on conference opponent Muscatine Community College on Saturday, dropping both games. Cheetham continued her hit streak throughout the week, adding base hits in each contest while driving in two runs.

Cheetham powered the Tigers in the team's weekend finale against ICCAC foe Southeastern Community College on Sunday, saving her best performance for last. The freshman went 1-4 in the opener as the Tigers won 5-1. In game two, Cheetham connected on three straight hits, including a solo home run and a two-run single in the seventh that proved to be the go-ahead run, giving the Tigers a 7-5 come-from-behind win after trailing by four runs.

Cheetham is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak.

Cheetham is the third MCC player to earn the ICCAC Player of the Week honor this season, joining Sarah Ghee (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) and Taylor Anderson (San Antonio, TX/Churchill).
