Tigers' win streak hits three with 2-1 win at NIACC

Mason City, IA-- The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team's winning streak hit three games on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over North Iowa Area Community College. John Krause (Slater, IA/Ballard) was credited with the game-winning goal.

The Tigers scored two first half goals to put the Trojans away. NIACC tallied a goal in the 85th minute for the only blemish for MCC on Saturday. Ralph Duopu put the Tigers on the board, scoring in the 7th minute for the early 1-0 lead. Krause scored on an assist from Alex Galvan (San Antonio, TX/Ronald Reagan) in the 33rd minute to double the Tigers' early lead.

After being sidelined during MCC's previous game due to an injury, freshman goalkeeper Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) made a return to the starting lineup, playing all 90 minutes in net. Pena stopped four shots on the day to pick up his sixth win of the year.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 7-2-1 overall on the year and 3-1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). MCC currently sits in second place in the league, sitting just behind Iowa Western who holds a 3-0 record.

The Tigers fired 15 shots on the day, with seven coming on net. MCC also recorded six corner kicks against the Trojans

Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Indian Hills (0-7-0, 0-4-0) on Sept. 25 at 4:00 PM.
