Eight Tigers named to All-Region XI squads

All-Region XI Teams

The All-Region XI teams were announced this afternoon and the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team was well represented. Eight players in all were named to one of the three teams, highlighted by three first-team selections after the Tigers finished in second place in the regular season.

 Freshman Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega), the team's leading scorer throughout the year was one of just six rookies named to the 15-player first-team. Carrillo finished second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with 13 assists, 41 points, and 14 goals on the year. Carrillo also ranked second nationally with eight game-winning goals.

Bill Baye (Crystal, MN/Park Center) was named to the first team after leading the Tiger defense to eight shutouts on the year. Baye, named a tri-captain for the 2013 season, anchored the MCC defense, allowing just 17 goals in 19 games played. The sophomore also recorded three goals and three assists on the year.

Alex Galvan (San Antonio, TX/Ronald Reagan), an honorable mention choice in 2012, received first team honors in 2013. Galvan played an integral leadership role on an MCC team that went 14-4-1 on the year and received the No. 2 seed in the Region XI Tournament. Galvan scored one goal and added two assists playing from the central midfield position.

Ralph Duopu (Crystal, MN/Armstrong), John Krause (Slater, IA/Ballard), and Roberto Velazquez (San Antonio, TX/Ronald Reagan) were named to the second team. Duopu served as the team's third tri-captain, making 16 starts on the year while scoring three goals and adding three assists. Krause finished as the team's second leading scorer, posting nine goals and five assists for 23 points. Velazquez missed a portion of the season due to an injury, but made a significant impact down the stretch for the Tigers in his return. The sophomore scored three goals and added four assists on the year.

Sophomores Marcus Boehler (Virginia Beach, VA/Niles C. Kinnick) and Hernan Lopez (Muskego, WI/Muskego) were both named to the Honorable Mention team. Lopez finished third on the team with six goals on the year while Boehler contributed three goals and two assists.
