Juan Carillo earns second straight ICCAC honor

Freshman Juan Carillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Carillo carried the Tigers to an overtime victory with five points against Iowa Central Community College on Tuesday.

Carillo, who won last week's award with a five-point performance in a 10-0 win against Indian Hills Community College, tallied two goals and an assist in an ICCAC showdown with Iowa Central. Carillo recorded the first goal of the game in the fifth minute and helped put the Tigers up 2-0 with an assist on a corner kick five minutes later.

After the Tritons tied things up late in the game, Carillo led MCC to its fifth straight league victory with the game-winning goal just 58 seconds into the overtime period. The game-winner was the fourth of the season for the freshman as MCC improved to 9-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play.

The Tigers dropped a hard-fought 1-0 match to No. 1 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College on Saturday.

Carillo currently leads the Tigers in goals, assists, points, shots, shots on goal, and game-winning goals. Carillo's 26 points and four game-winners rank first in the ICCAC while his nine goals and eight assists rank second in the league.

MCC, ranked No. 19 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I poll, continue play with a pair of road ICCAC games this week, traveling to Scott Community College on Wednesday and Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday.
