Juan Carrillo named ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week

Following a career-best five-point performance against Indian Hills Community College last week, freshman striker Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Carrillo becomes the second straight Tiger to earn the award after John Krause (Slater, IA/Ballard) was named Offensive Player of the Week last week. Carrillo contributed one goal and a career-high three assists against the Hills as MCC rolled to a 10-0 victory, its fourth straight conference win.

Against Indian Hills, Carrillo assisted on the game's first goal to sophomore Ralph Duopu (Brooklyn Park, MN/Armstrong) in the 13th minute. Carrillo opened up the second half with assists on back-to-back goals to Krause and Hernan Lopez (Muskego, WI/Muskego). With the Tigers leading 7-0, Carrillo was called upon for a penalty kick opportunity. The freshman calmly converted the score, his second penalty kick goal of the year.

Carrillo was awarded the accolade prior to the start of Tuesday's game against Iowa Central Community College. Weekly honors from the ICCAC are awarded for the prior week's accomplishments. On Tuesday, Carrillo scored two goals and added an assist to improve on his already-stellar freshman campaign. Carrillo's second goal came as the game-winner in overtime as MCC defeated the Tritons 3-2.

Carrillo leads the ICCAC with 26 points and eight assists and is second in the league with nine goals. The freshman has tallied 16 points in his last five games for the Tigers.

MCC will take on Iowa Western on Saturday in a rematch from this year's previous meeting that saw the Reivers score a 3-0 victory, MCC's lone conference loss of the year.
