All-around effort leads softball past Central CC

Columbus, NE—The Marshalltown Community College softball road trip provided two more wins for the Tigers as MCC swept Central Community College 6-2 and 10-2 in Thursday's afternoon doubleheader. The Tigers extended their winning streak to four games.

Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas) led the offensive onslaught with six total hits on the day, including a pair of home runs. Sophomore Tess Cheetham (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside) delivered two home runs in game two while Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) and Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) each picked up a win in the circle.

MCC is averaging over 10 runs per game during the team's current four-game winning streak with all four victories coming on the road. Robinson is batting .714 (10-14) during the stretch with six RBI and eight runs scored.

Robinson opened up game one with a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Tigers the initial lead. Sophomore Samuari Jones (Louisville, KY/Seneca) connected on her first-career home run in the fourth to help MCC extend its lead to 5-1. Carter capped off the scoring with an RBI-single to score Jones in the fifth.

Taylor tossed four innings and struck out seven batters to secure her 10th win of the season while Taylor Tague (Des Moines, IA/Saydel) added three innings of relief. Robinson went 3-3 in the win while Jones and Dion Shirley (Van Meter, IA/Van Meter) each recorded two hits.

The Tigers opened up game two with another big first inning, this time plating four runs in the frame after a two-run double from Annalee Myers (Ames, IA/Ames). Cheetham delivered a solo home run in the third and followed up with another solo shot in the fifth to connect on back-to-back home runs with Robinson.

Lexie Valentine (Des Moines, IA/Saydel) tallied two hits, including a run-scoring triple. Robinson collected three more hits in the game two win to go along with Cheetham and Myers' two hits each.

The Tigers wrap up their three-day road trip with a doubleheader at Concordia University JV on Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
