Robinson named All-American

Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV) was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America 2nd team based on her stellar efforts this softball season. Robinson becomes only the second Tiger in the history of the softball program to receive this honor. Hally Lenzine, who went on to play at Iowa State, was a Third Team selection in 2012 and is regarded as one of the best softball players to don a Tiger uniform.

The All-American nod will add to what has been an impressive award season for Robinson who was also named the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Third team, as well as NFCA All-Midwest team. She was also the Offensive Player of the year for the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in addition to being named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st Team.

Robinson, who appeared in all 42 games in centerfield, led the Tigers in most offensive categories with most notably a .493 batting average, .551 on base percentage, and .971 slugging percentage. She also lead the way in hits runs (51), hits (68) and runs batted in (49). She hit a total of 16 home runs which not only led her team but also the ICCAC. Her batting average also was top for the conference and landed her in the 18th spot nationally.

Tiger Head Coach Garland Shirley had the following remarks regarding Robinson, "In my career I have had the pleasure of coaching some of the most amazing talent in this sport. Each of them have had a motivation to succeed that clearly sets them apart from the competition. You see it in everything they do. It is rare that the great ones in the sport fail in the classroom or are irresponsible people. It is that dedication to being successful at life that becomes who they are as a person. Shaena's accomplishments reflect her life approach and I am proud to have her with us."
