A no-hitter from sophomore Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) highlighted a successful Sophomore Day sweep of Iowa Western Community College for the Marshalltown Community College softball team on Sunday. Taylor has been rewarded with the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Pitcher of the Week award.

Sunday marked Sophomore Day for the Tigers, and Taylor stepped up in her final start at home as a member of the MCC softball program. Taylor kept the then-first place Reivers hitless for seven innings as the Tigers outlasted Iowa Western 3-0. In game two, Taylor tossed 1.1 innings of relief work to earn her league-leading fifth save of the year as the Tigers completed the afternoon sweep with a 5-2 win.

Taylor struck out seven batters in the no-hitter performance, her second of the season.

The sophomore also earned a win in a 13-2 ICCAC victory at Southeastern Community College on April 19, going six innings with just one earned run.

Taylor ranks third in the ICCAC with 99 strikeouts and fourth with 12 wins on the year.

MCC wraps up its regular season schedule with a nonconference doubleheader at 1:00 PM at Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday afternoon.

The 2017 NJCAA Region XI Tournament opens up Friday morning in Council Bluff, IA. The fourth-seeded Tigers will take on top-seeded Indian Hills Community College at 10:00 AM.
