Nicole Montgomery of BCLUW High School signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Marshalltown Community College volleyball program on Tuesday morning. Montgomery becomes the seventh recruit to ink their commitment with the Tigers for the 2015 season.

"MCC feels like the perfect setting for me," Montgomery exclaimed on her reasoning to join the Tiger program, located just 10 minutes from her hometown. "It's a small town and I really liked that."

Montgomery earned First-Team NICL West honors in her final season on the Comets after earning second-team recognition as a junior. Montgomery helped lead BCLUW to a school-record 22 wins in 2014 after finishing second on the team with 180 kills, 160 digs, and 29 total blocks.

On what she can contribute to the team, Montgomery brings a positive energy to the team. "I believe in good teamwork, and that seems big at MCC, which I like. Coach (Chris) Brees seems like a good person and a good coach, and that helped my decision to play at MCC."

Brees believes Montgomery, who also plays softball at BCLUW, can bring a high-level of athletic ability to the court next year for MCC. "She's a very versatile player, which in our style of play helps a lot. She's very quick on the court which will allow her to adapt very easily to the collegiate level. She hits a very hard ball at the net. We'll continue to work on her shot selection, but she brings a number of great qualities to the team."

Montgomery looks forward to the challenge of adapting to the next level of her playing career. "I'm ready for the transition from high school to college, I just need to discipline myself to get to that level, but I'm excited for it."

"I love volleyball," Montgomery added. "My dad was a volleyball player and that's really helped my career. I'm just excited to get started."

Montgomery plans to take general education classes while at MCC in hopes of moving on to the University of Northern Iowa.

Montgomery's sister, Danielle, was a member of the 2013-14 MCC women's basketball team.
