2016 MCC Men's Soccer Schedule
The Marshalltown Community College Soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2016 season. The Tigers are coming off one of the best seasons in program history that saw the team finish the season 18-1-2 and were ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA poll at the end of the year.
The 17-game slate for the Tigers in 2016 features 16 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) contests, two against each of the team's eight conference foes. The Tigers have a total of nine home games on the year where the team has not lost in its last 12 games dating back to Oct. 15, 2014.
After a pair of preseason scrimmages, the 2016 regular season campaign opens up at home on August 23 against ICCAC opponent Scott Community College with a 4:00 PM start. MCC outscored the Eagles 20-0 in two games last year as the Tigers pitched a school-record 13 shutouts.
Following a home contest against North Iowa Area Community College on August 27, the Tigers host Carl Sandburg for the team's lone nonconference match at 4:00 PM on August 31. MCC's first road challenge will be at Indian Hills Community College at 2:00 PM on Sept. 3 for an ICCAC match.
The key matchup for the regular season will be held at MCC on Sept. 17 against Iowa Western Community College. The Tigers and Reivers fought to two regular season scoreless draws in 2015 and went to double overtime in the Region XI Championship where Iowa Western took a 1-0 victory. The two teams finished the 2015 season ranked inside the top 10 of the NJCAA polls. MCC travels to Iowa Western on Oct. 1.
Other notable matchups for the Tigers consist of Hawkeye Community College at 4:00 PM on Sept. 20 in Marshalltown. Hawkeye, members of the ICCAC, will be participating in their first-ever season at the collegiate ranks. Northeast Community College completed their first season in the ICCAC last year and are eligible for postseason play this year. Northeast comes to MCC on Sept. 10 while the Tigers conclude the regular season on the road vs. the Hawks on Oct. 22.
The team's final regular season home game is against Iowa Central at 2:00 PM on Oct. 15. MCC defeated the Tritons all three times in 2015, including in the Region XI Tournament, with all three wins coming by way of shutout.
This year's Region XI Tournament will begin on Oct. 26 with the semifinal and championship round on Oct. 29-30 in Des Moines, IA at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
Home contests and a majority of road matches will be streamed live online and live statistics will also be provided throughout the year.
