Tigers close out regular season ranked No. 14

NJCAA Divsion I Men's Soccer Poll

The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team moved up one spot in this week's NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer poll, finishing the 2016 regular season at No. 14.

MCC earned two wins last week to finish the regular season with a 13-3-1 overall record and a 12-3-1 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

The Tigers defeated Hawkeye Community College 1-0 on Tuesday on Roger De la Villa's free kick goal before defeating Northeast Community College 3-0 on Saturday to close out the regular season. Freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) tallied two goals for the Tigers in the win.

Sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) earned both shutouts for the Tigers to finish the regular season with nine, giving him 19 career shutouts for MCC.

Iowa Western Community College, who earned the top-overall seed in this week's Region XI Tournament, is ranked No. 3 in the poll. Tyler Junior College held on to the top ranking in the poll with an 18-0-0 record while Monroe College closed out the season at No. 2 in the poll.

With the two wins, MCC clinched the No. 2 overall seed in this week's Region XI Tournament. The Tigers will host No. 7 seed Dakota County Technical College at 3:00 PM on Wednesday.
