2016 NSCAA Junior College Men's Scholar All-American Team
Two members of the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team- sophomores Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) and Artur Aguiar (Fortaleza, Brazil/7 de Setembro) have been named to the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College Men's Scholar All-American team.
A marketing major, Pereira earned first-team honors while Aguiar, a business major, was selected to the second-team.
Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-American recognition must be a sophomore in good academic standing at their respective institution and meet the following criteria:
- 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout their career
- Start more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
- Nominated by head coach of current NSCAA College Services member institution
Both recipients for MCC have received multiple awards both on and off the field for the Tigers throughout their two-year careers. Pereira was recently selected as a NJCAA and NSCAA All-American and also earned NSCAA All-East Region honors and First-Team All-Region XI honors.
RAFAEL PEREIRA EARNS NSCAA ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
Artur was an All-Region XI All-Tournament team selection and was named to the All-Region XI Second-Team for the Tigers in 2016. In November, Aguiar was inducted into the Alpha Iota Rho Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
NINE TIGERS LAND ON ALL-REGION XI TEAMS
As freshmen, both players earned First-Team All-Region XI Academic honors.
Players on this year's Junior College Scholar All-American teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on January 14, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.
