Men's soccer remains at No. 3 in NJCAA poll

NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll

For the second straight week the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team is ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA Division I Soccer poll. The Tigers posted a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) wins last week to improve to 9-1-0 on the year.

The top five of the poll remained the same from last week with Tyler Junior College (TX) on top of the rankings at 9-0-0. Monroe College (NY) sits ahead of MCC at 9-0-0 while fellow ICCAC foe Iowa Western Community College is ranked No. 4. Parkland Community College comes in at No. 5 with an unblemished 11-0-0 record. ICCAC member Iowa Lakes Community College received votes for the second straight week.

The Tigers opened up the week with a 7-1 rout of Hawkeye Community College at home on Tuesday afternoon. MCC followed up with a 1-0 road victory at North Iowa Area Community College on Saturday behind Thiago Fernandes' (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Dom Oton Mota) lone goal.

The No. 3 ranking is tied for the best mark in program history, joining the 2007 team that finished third at the NJCAA Tournament. The Tigers have appeared in 17 consecutive polls dating back to the start of the 2015 season.

The Tigers welcome a week off before heading to Iowa Western to take on the Reivers on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Tigers upset the then-No. 3 Reivers 2-0 on Sept. 17 in Marshalltown.
