Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team closed out its home schedule on Thursday night, falling to the visiting Northeast Community College Hawks 3-1 at the Student Activity Center. MCC falls to 12-19 on the year with the loss.
The Tigers dropped the first two sets of the night, 25-18 and 25-17 before rallying to take set three 25-22. The Hawks used an early lead in set four to eventually take the frame and the match with a 25-17 victory.
Freshman Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week, led all Tigers with 20 kills on 58 attempts for a .259 hitting percentage. The freshman also added a team-high 23 digs and three service aces.
DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) added seven kills and four block assists for MCC. Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) contributed 35 assists while Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) totaled five kills and 13 digs. Nicole Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) recorded six kills and two solo blocks. Paola Toledo (Boca Chica, Dominican Republic/San Rafael) posted four kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Rieley Rodman (Ankeny, IA/Grand View Christian) added 15 digs.
MCC wraps up the 2016 regular season on the road at Iowa Lakes Community College at 5:00 PM on Saturday night. The NJCAA District J Tournament opens up on Nov. 4 in Council Bluffs, IA. The third-seeded Tigers will take on second-seeded Indian Hills Community College at 3:00 PM at Iowa Western Community College.
