Volleyball looks to make noise in district tournament

NJCAA District J Tournament Information

The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team opens up the NJCAA District J Tournament on Friday afternoon against Indian Hills Community College. This weekend's double elimination tournament will be hosted by Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA.

MCC (12-20/0-4) enters postseason play as the No. 3 seed in the four team bracket. Iowa Western (31-4/3-1) earned the top overall seed and Indian Hills Community College (35-3/3-1) will be the No. 2 seed. Vincennes University (28-12) of Region VII will be the No. 4 seed.

The Tigers and Indian Hills open up postseason play at 3:00 PM in Kanesville Arena. The winner will advance to play the winner of Iowa Western vs. Vincennes at 7:00 PM while the two losing teams will meet at 5:00 PM on Friday.

2016 NJCAA DISTRICT J TOURNAMENT BRACKET

After starting the year 5-14, the Tigers found their groove towards the end of the season, winning seven of the team's final 13 matches, including a four match win streak midway through October.

The Tigers lost both of their regular season conference meetings to Indian Hills in straight sets.

MCC enters postseason play led by freshman Sara Bisbe's (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat) 410 kills which ranks fourth in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and 53 service aces which ranks second.

Sophomore Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) has totaled 307 kills this year to go along with 37 service aces. Nina Bales' (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) 889 assists have led the offensive distribution for the Tigers.

Indian Hills, coached by Lyndsey Michel, has been led by a pair of hitters, Camila Nicoletti and Bailey Darnall who have each totaled over 400 kills on the year.
