Tigers stumble on the road at No. 14 Iowa Central

Fort Dodge, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team suffered a 113-70 loss to No. 14 Iowa Central on Saturday afternoon. Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) and Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) each scored 17 points for the Tigers.

MCC got off to a slow start against the Tritons, scoring just two points in the first six minutes of action. Iowa Central pulled away quickly in the first half, taking a 32-11 lead at the seven minute mark. MCC continued to battle as the Tigers went on a 12-4 run over the final five minutes of the half, but the Tritons held a 47-25 halftime lead.

MCC struggled to open the second half as the Tritons' continued to have the hot hand on their offensive end. Gott hit five of her eight baskets in the second half, but Iowa Central's lead proved to be too much for the Tigers as MCC's eight-game winning streak came to a halt. 

Iowa Central, the second-highest scoring team in the ICCAC knocked down 11 three-point shots on the night and hit 24-30 from the free throw line.

Howe or Gott have now led the Tigers in scoring in 10 of the team's 12 games as the two provided the offensive attack against Iowa Central. Gott leads the Tigers with an average of 16.4 points per game while Gott ranks second with 15.2 points.

As a team, the Tigers hit six three-point shots on the day and are now averaging 7.4 three-point shots made over their last five games.

Saturday's game marked the final game of the first half of the season for MCC as the Tigers are off until Jan. 4 where they will host North Iowa Area Community College, ranked No. 2 in this week's NJCAA Division II poll.
