Tigers fall on the road at Southeastern 76-65

Keokuk, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) game on Wednesday night as the Tigers fell on the road 76-65 to Southeastern Community College. Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) scored a team-high 18 points.

The Tigers (17-11/7-8) held an early 18-10 lead in the first half over Southeastern (8-20/4-11), but the Blackhawks battled back to take a 33-31 halftime lead. The Blackhawks shot 17-19 from the free throw line in the second half and outscored the Tigers 43-34 in the final frame to take the conference victory.

Gott recorded her 16th double-digit scoring game of the season to go along with nine rebounds. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) hit two first half three-point shots and finished the game with 16 points. Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) dished out nine assists and continues to lead the conference in assists per game with 5.9.

The Tigers remain in fifth-place in the conference standings, 2.5 games behind fourth-place Des Moines Area Community College and three games ahead of Ellsworth Community College. 

The Tigers close out the 2014 regular season on Saturday at home against Southwestern Community College (5-23/2-13). Three sophomores- Gott, Salgado, and Rusty Henio (Tama, IA/Pine Hill) will play in their final regular season home game as a member of the MCC squad.
