Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team succumbed to the defensive pressure of the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans on Wednesday night, falling 74-46 at the Student Activity Center.
Despite an early first quarter lead, the Tigers fell behind after 10 minutes as the Trojans took a 21-12 lead after one quarter. NIACC built its lead to 36-21 at halftime and scored 19 points in each of the final two frames compared to the Tigers' total of 11 and 14.
JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) paced the Tigers once again with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds while blocking two shots and recording three assists. Accacia Huff (Peoria, IL/Central) scored eight points and Victoria Pothast (Melbourne, IA/West Marshall) added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench in her collegiate debut.
MCC committed a season-high 36 turnovers that resulted in 18 steals for the Trojans. NIACC controlled the rebounding battle with a 45-38 advantage.
The Tigers head to Kirkwood Community College for a 1:00 PM matchup on Saturday.
