Hiraldo, Araoz earn All-Region XI honors

2015-16 NJCAA All-Region XI Division I Women's Basketball Team

Sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) and freshman Barbara Araoz (Nequen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) have been named to the All-Region XI Division I Women's Basketball team. Hiraldo earned first-team honors while Araoz was named to the Honorable Mention team.

Hiraldo was the central figure for the Tigers this year as the sophomore led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in scoring with 17.5 points per game and rebounding at 9.1 per game. Hiraldo also led the conference with 2.1 blocks per game and ranked second in the league with 2.3 steals per contest. Hiraldo also excelled at the free throw line, connecting on 77.5 percent from the stripe, the second-best mark in the league.

Hiraldo finished her stellar career at MCC with 778 career points which ranked as the third-most in the MCC program over the last 14 seasons. The sophomore also finished with 466 career rebounds and 101 career steals.

Over the course of her final season, Hiraldo racked up 13 games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 34 points in a 74-51 win over Missouri Valley JV on Nov. 20. Hiraldo also recorded nine double-doubles this past season with a personal-best 19 rebounds coming in a 58-53 win over William Penn JV on Nov. 3. Hiraldo earned ICCAC Player of the Week honors three times as a sophomore.

Araoz served as the team's primary ball handler throughout the year. The freshman ranked third in the ICCAC in assists per game with 4.1. Araoz averaged 7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest for the Tigers. Araoz's 76.6 free throw percentage was good enough for fourth-best in the ICCAC.

Araoz scored in double-figures 11 times on the year, scoring a season-high 20 points in a 77-50 win over Little Priest Tribal College on Nov. 14. The freshman also posted three double-doubles on the year.
