Hiraldo scores 21 in loss to Southeastern

Marshalltown, IA—An early first quarter lead disappeared quickly as the Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team fell to Southeastern Community College 62-44 at the Student Activity Center on Monday night. JeAnn Hiraldo led the Tigers with 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers erased a five-point deficit in the opening minutes of the first quarter and put together a 6-0 run to give MCC a 9-8 advantage. The Tigers went scoreless for the final 2:45 of quarter as the Blackhawks led by three, 12-9.

Southeastern limited MCC in the second half, allowing just eight MCC points to take a 32-17 halftime lead. Despite a 19 point effort in the third quarter from the Tigers, Southeastern still led by 16. MCC allowed just 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the offense produced eight points to drop its seventh straight contest.

Victoria Pothast (Melbourne, IA/West Marshall) grabbed eight rebounds for the Tigers while Barbara Araoz (Nequen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) scored five points and contributed five assists. Shyannon Wolf (Tama, IA/Meskwaki) hit two three-point shots and finished with eight points off the bench.

The Tigers wrap up the first half of the regular season with a home game against Iowa Lakes Community College at 5:00 PM on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader with the MCC men's team who also play the Lakers with the tip-off set for 7:00 PM.
