Women's basketball opens up Region XI Tournament Wednesday

The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team opens up the 2016 Region XI Tournament as the No. 3 seed, travelling to No. 2 seed Northeast Community College Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.

The two teams will meet for the third time this year, with the Hawks winning both of the previous two matchups. The winner of Wednesday night's matchup will go on to face top-seeded and No. 13 Iowa Western Community College on Saturday night in Council Bluffs, IA.

MCC has been led by sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) who finished the regular season atop the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in points per game (17.4) and rebounds per game (9.1).

The Northeast offense has been led by a quartet of scorers, with four players averaging double-figures. Raveen Murray leads the Hawks with 13.9 points per contest for the highest-scoring team in the ICCAC.
